Topic: Upgrading from Numark TotalControl

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hi Everyone,

Ive been mixing for about a year now with the help of Virtual DJ, Numark IO, and Numark TotalControl.

After all this time I have to say that this equipment has brought me great pleasure, and has allowed me to do more or less what I wanted in terms of mixing electronic music.

However, I'm starting to wonder whether there's more to the DJ experience. After seeing how the djing scene "used" to be (vinyls, etc.), Ive become rather interested in "upgrading" the system I have now to something more professional.

The Numark TotalControl does what its supposed to do, no doubt- but is simply not "sturdy" enough. Im amazed its even called a "professional controller."

So, I need the help of someone with experience. I was considering, in order to replace the Numark IO and the Numark TotalControl, buying a VirtualDJ-compatible MIDI controller (I think ive seen a pioneer MIDI mixer), which naturally connects via USB to the computer. Likewise, I was considering buying two CD players, each which (I suppose) connect to the mixer via RCA cables.

I need the following advice, or information:

1. What setbacks would this have when using Virtual DJ? For example, would the software still recognize the song waveforms when the songs are loaded on the cd players? Could the songs be internally loaded (just how they would be when using the Numark TotalControl) in such a way that they are still controlled via the CD players?

2. Would there be technical difficulties (sound distortion, interference, etc)?

3. What mixer and what set of cd players would you recommend?

4. What other setup would you recommend?

Thank you so much for your help =)

Perhaps you may be interested in the Numark Omni Control as a software controler or a solution such as Numark Virtual Vinyl?

Whats the difference between the Omni Control and the Total Control? They seem exactly the same to me....

The main difference is that omni also have the audio interface implant within opposed to total which is just a controller and u need a soundcard such as the djio etc.

Here is the picture:

It looks very futuristic, I like it!

what about the general quality? is it actually "studier" than the total control? for example, the total control fader quality (precision, material) is actually pretty bad....

ive read the description of the omni in the numark homepage, yet I still dont understand what "high quality buttons" are lol

oh and by the way, how much does it approximately cost? I suppose its compatible with virtual dj right?

oh and one other thing.....

is there no solution other than Numark Virtual Vinyl to do what I originally wanted (replace Total Control with USB, MIDI Mixer and two CD Players)?

Yeah, there are lots of options, but they are all expensive.

A nice set up might be 2 Pioneer CDJ400s and a pioneer DJM 800. That would give you everything the total control does and the ability to play CDs.

Or how about the Denon HC4500 and an X500 mixer?

Something somewhere in between the above and what you have now would be the vestax VCI-100. That's similar to what you've got, but with touch sensitive platters and sturdier build quality.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, another thought, if you buy the Virtual Vinyl Package, then you can use any mixer and CDJs to control Virtual DJ. Or instead of Virtual Vinyl, you could buy the professional version of VDJ and the soundcard of your choice (eg maya 44 usb, U46DJ, audio 8, presonus firebox).

If you did it that way, then you could buy any CDJs you liked the look of.

thanks for the help, definitely clears up a couple of questions.

After looking at the prices for the Pioneer equipment set, maybe it would be a better idea to get the Numark NS7.

As I see it, the NS7 has everything I need: compatibility with VDJ, a much more "hands on" feel to mixing as compared to TotalControl, and still a completely digital way of mixing music (songs are loaded directly from the computer to VDJ and then can be manipulated through the integrated decks).

What do you think of this idea?
