A long time ago I used AtomixMP3. IT was fine. Pig ugly but simple and intuitive. I pressed one button to sync and play and it was also the same nudge button that would actually align to the right beat.
God forbid a software package should be intuitive and functional. You had to go messing with it so now there is no obvious stop/rewind to start function and you cant nudge it with the synch button without throwing the mix out. It seems to go wherever it chooses rather than the nearest beat.
So maybe I'm a luddite and dont get all this swanky new stuff but the old one was fine. I didnt need a forum or a manual and it did the job. Sadly it won't install on any new versions of windows that I can see and there is no replacement for it. Traktor is even worse. Virtual DJ is about the only thing that has a responsive synch but the new version is a completely retrograde step.
Can anyone reccommend something like Atomix because thats all I ever wanted or needed.

Did you bought Atomix Mp3? If you were, please add its serial at your profile.
If you used cracked Atomix or VDJ, than we can't help you.
VDJ has many new options and features and of course it can't be simple as Atomix Mp3 who has just basic play options.

I feel the same way about video games, I just loved PONG! It was simple, the ball bounced back and forth.
Now look at these games, I can't figure out what the hell is going on! Does anyone have an old pong game I could purchase?

I used to run a cracked copy when I was a marxist teenager but now I'm an adult I'm quite happy to pay for something that has the same functionality as atomix mp3. I used to drag a trackon to one deck, then another on the other and then click the synch button and hey bresto I had a beat locked mix going and the nudge button worked. Feeding it through a DJ mixer I had everything I needed. I never asked for more than that and I'm trying to evaluate VDJ to see if it will make the grade but I've messed around with it for six months on and off and I'm unable to see how all this extra garbage is an improvement if it no longer does the basics.

I'm sorry I don't agree, I had managed to work out a method within 10 seconds on the old one.
On this the controls are too finnicky and twitchy and There is no obvious way to to nudge without throwing the mix out and the manual rewind is a ballsache.
The whole joy of Atomix was thefact that I as a vinyl DJ could load it up and know what to do. Now I need a music tech degree just to get it to beat lock properly.
Intuitive it is not and nowhere near as precise as atomix.

Virtual dj has headed more in the direction of hands on mixing through the use of controllers and it supports more than any software that is available.
We have many Atomix mp3 users who are just as satisfied with that over full blown media players such as VDJ.

Maybe so but the whole point of atomix for me is to not have to carry around specialist kit and have something infinately accessible.
What has happened with it in my view is not an improvement. Atomix was functionally the very essence of DJ'ing and that was the one thing that set it apart from all the rest of the dross. Traktor is equally impenetrable and the rest of em just dont cut it.
I fail to see how other people can be satisfied with VDJ given the absence of that one feature.
What was so wrong with pushing one button to autosync and play on my command. Why must I now fuss around with it to get a less accurate mix?
Could that one feature not have been preserved?

Hi Acidtrash, when you open the latest demo version, did you choose the "simple" interface skin? I would think that one has been designed to be nice and simple- I'm sure it can't be much more complicated than atomix mp3.
Also, off the back of what somebody else just said, I think you're opinion of the software might change for the better if you bought some hardware. Maybe something like the hercules mkII, or the hercules RMX, or the Numark Omni control. They all come with a free version of virtual dj and give a really hands on feel to things.

It's not that i cannot cope with the extra features. It is that I don't need them and never wanted them and theyve pulled the one feature that made the package worth having. As is, it doesn't have an obvious or intelligent jog function (it routinely throws the mix when it never used to) and I would like it to sync and play on the same button push. Is that too much to ask? Simplicity of interface is by the by. Although it would be nice to have a crossfader that weasnt miniscule. Atomix was fine and I'd happily part with money for it if I could get it funtioning on anything other than windows 98.

Then that defeats the whole point. I might as well take all my audio kit and play a live PA. What I wanted was a simple, self contained DJ package with a single sync and play combo button. No other package does this and theyve edited out the one unique selling point that made the format viable.

Ok, as you can see I'm a full blown REGISTERED Atomix user. (Check out my icon)
I'll trade you my old version of Atomix for for a decent game of PONG.
It must be the old version where the paddles don't resize, I hate those little baby paddles, when I get paddled I want to feel it!

Interesting no-one has been able to convince me that the new version does what I need. Thought so. Pretty typical. Just running a demo of Mixvibes Cross and while it does do what Atomix did the performance issues prevent it from being useful. So as ever, software developers have taken something perfectly adequate and made it less functional with worse performance.

acidtrash, you can still purchase AtomixMP3.

People above and I clearly explained to you what VDJ is became and what is for. If you don't like it or don't know how to use it, then try harder as no knowledge comes easy. Atomix Mp3 is good program but it is a part of history. It made me jump the digital world, and I am enjoying living in here.
Please don't write more destructive and negative opinions before you read a manual and try to use this program.

I'd love to help point out the obvious, but I'm afraid sounding like a rocket scientist...

I know you can still buy atomix but Ive downloaded a few different versions and it just dont work on vista apparently.
Im not gona part with money until Im satisfied Im getting exactly waht I want. My requirements may have changed but what I do know is that without outboard kit, VDJ is completely worthless to me.
Just wanted to express how disappointed I am as a potential customer that they have sabotaged the one thing that made it good.
Ive spent nearly all day with it and I wouldnt say Ive had one satisfactory mix out of it. I want the precision I can command from vinyl and VDJ doesn't cut it. Its beat locking is lousy. Even a friend who does use VDJ has never provided me with a mix I would honestly say was up to scratch. But fair enough. If you guys are satisfied with mediocrity and are prepared to pay for it who am I to complain?
I'll just have to find a more creatiive way of doing it.

And that is what VDJ is all about.
For a guy that is as talented as you seem to be, your reliance on beat lock is puzzling me.
99% of djs learning their craft move away from this kind of mixing, its a stepping stone until they feel it and mix manually.
Not being aggressive on this, just very curious.

So I think the problem here is that virtual dj has headed in one direction (more controller support, video playback, etc) whereas you're looking for more automatic features.
It was a few years ago, but I think I remember when they got rid of the sync and play in one button. I think it was because vdj had the reputation for being an automatic mixing program and didn't get much respect from the DJ community. So they made the automatic features a bit lower key and fucused on other things instead.
It's definately a shame if the sync used to work better than it does now though. I've never had atomix mp3 though, so I don't know.
Just another thought, if you do like atomix mp3 still. Have you tried installing it in "xp compatability mode". There's an option for it in windows vista. I think you can find it somewhere if you right click on the icon to install, then click properties, it's there somewhere I think.
