Will virtual dj software run on "netbooks" like an eepc?
Does anybody here have some experience?

i asked this question a few months back, and nobody could give a straight YES / NO answer...

Though in my opinion, the eeepc is a bit basic for most things.
I'm waiting for the Asus n10 to come to europe...

the n10 will have an nVidia graphics card, and 'should' be capable of running video.

soon as this is in the shops, im gonna go down there with VirtualDJ and test it out. (will remove virtualDJ after) lol
 
You can use it for video use only but you need to make smaller skin as first Asus eee had 800x480 resolution. It works good and even internal sound card has very good sound.
 
I've used my eee 1000HA with both my Hercules controllers (MK2 and RMX) for over half a year and haven't experienced any glitches. I used VDJ version 3.2 and 5.2(RMX edition) respectively, that come bundled with the Hercules hardware. I can use my Eee for mixing with the power coming only from the battery, and even then it works just fine.
One thing that gets to me is that when I use the old 800x600 skin, the tracks window displays a tiny font that is hard to see on the eee screen, unlike the explorer window, that is easily seen. The Eee 1000's screen is 1024x600, which is proportionally hard to resize. the bitmap image has to be downsized somehow, and then the xml adjusted appropriately...a bit over my head, as I'm not a graphics guy, but can freely do xml...

So my final stance is this:

If you get Eee, get one of the latest models, so that the sucker runs a bit faster. Upgrade the RAM to 2GB(Eee doesn't allow more RAM at this time), unlock the power usage from the USB drives(Done through the Device Manager), kill any antivirus software and other programs while using VDJ, as you want as much system resources as you can have, get some skin that will not be more than 1024x600 for the ease of use (using 1024x768 skin in full-screen mode will resize your Eee window and you will be screen-scrolling), and lastly, don't use Video effects as they will pretty much freeze your system(you need a better processor and more RAM for video mixing).
Oh, one more thing. I overclock my system when doing house parties, so that my mixing sessions are more stable. If you want to do this, you can ead the following thread:

New netbooks with the N280 processor and 2GB of RAM should run VDJ without any problems at all.

The new 1.66ghz N280s found in Asus models are faster than the old 1.60ghz N270.
With the new processor and slight bump in speed, you can expect about 15% better performance from the CPU.
I have heard many people using netbooks with VDJ with no problem...

... just don't do video or bloat your system and it should work very well.
I will post videos when I get my hands on a 1005HA!
 
I have a Samsung NC20 and it works great for audio with the DN-HC4500 controller. CPU maxes out loading songs for a few seconds but otherways it's fine and I use it in the club all the time.

Wouldn't suggest a netbook for video though!
 
I just bought a Dell Mini 10v - so I will let you guys know in a few weeks when I've had a chance to test it out!
 
I have been using a Samsung NC10with 2GB on a trimmed XP(TinyXP) for 6 months and it works great. I dont use any advanced video mixing though, just the Sonique beat visuals.
But it is neccessary to keep the system unbloated with software(make sure to use a quick n light antivirus, I use AVAST) and keep open applications to a minimum when gigging.
There is a great tool in the download section for resizing skins to fit the 1024x600 resolution. If you have access to an external monitor, I recommend using the VGA output on the NC10 for display, hunching down for a long session takes it toll on the back but it works - but of course thats when VDJ saves me and goes on automix for short break!.
 
No problems with audio on my HP Mini 110. I just wish I could get the vdj v6 skin for it.

I tried using the skin resizer tool but it kept giving me errors.
 
I may design a netbook skin (probably based on VideoVision, although I'm not sure if the Video part is necessary)... but there are a few available already that fit into that size, aren't there?
 
I couldn't find any 1024x600 skins on the skins page. :(

nope. you can only have one browser in the XML script file.
this limitation is put in by design.
 
Guys,

Netbooks are design to a user that browse the internet and use Office software like MS Word, Excel and/or powerpoint. It is not recommended to be use in ANY multimedia environment. So please, I suggest you to use this only as a backup for audio files.

Use a Core 2 Duo T6000 and up based laptops and also with X4500 or N-Vidia 9600GT or better. Some can rune videos well with 9400GT video card, but 9600GT are better. ATI HD4xxx are having issues using DirectX9 instructions, so I don't recommend it to avoid headaches.

 
That's a fair point but I have used the NC20 for 3 to 4 months now with the HC4500 (v5.21) and had no problems whatsoever (audio only). Best to rip out the watered down version of XP you get with them and replace it with XP pro SP3.

Some of the lower end netbooks however will be no use at all. The boundaries deciding what is a netbook and what is a laptop are diminsihing fast!
 
My HP Mini 110 Netbook seems to work well with v6.0.2 audio and with my brief test with Video does so too except when trying to play a video that's loading with another video already playing. There are no audio defects but the video is choppy. If I just load a video with another one playing the cpu usage maxes out but there is no audio or video defects. I am going to do more testing with it.

This netbook seems to work well with the Pioneer MEP-7000. Can't say the same for my $2,000 Dell Inspiron e1705! I get audio pops/blips/short dropouts when playing videos with the unit but don't with the Mini..go figure! I think its a Dell issue...anyway that was off topic a little.

The specs of my Netbook is:

HP Mini 110
Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz
2 GB of Ram
XP Pro SP3
150 GB HDD

3 USB 2.0 Ports
1 Serial
1 Ethernet

My question is, how you get video output?

did the asio drivers install ok? I also have an HP Mini 110 with windows starter & it will not load my asio driver
