Topic: Alpha transition still doesn't work.... - Page: 2

And, NO, I don't like most of the transitions that are included with VirtualDJ - they look like garbage. The fade/strobe/satellite boom are the only ones that actually look good. Mostly they look, as I said, unprofessional and basic.

Wait a second - hold up here. jrick, you work for Atomix and you DON'T KNOW what the transition is supposed to do? Are you kidding me? Aren't you supposed to know the details of the product you're supporting?

Seems you don't know either ... are you just activating the effect? Or are you setting the RGB levels for the granularity of the RGB Alpha mixing that you want to use ... before you activate it?

You are free to suggest new ones or heaven forbid create your own you know ;)

Several of my contributed transitions have been based on ideas supplied by people for what they want.

Now I see why its broken.

I know exactly what it does. I have done EVERYTHING to try to make it works, and the same thing, as I described before, continues to happen. I have used a machine where the transition works properly - so I've seen it in action. If I didn't, I'd probably just think that what it is currently doing is the transition and that's it and I wouldnt be complaining. But I know what it does. And no matter what, the same thing always happens.

So yes, I know _exactly_ how it is supposed to work and how it does not work that way.

I don't mean this as an offense, so don't get me wrong. But I've can't use most of them because they simply just don't look very professional. If this makes sense - many look like they've been done in MS Paint as opposed to Photoshop and Illustrator - that's the level of quality I see.

Go on then instead of being so coy.

Ok so here is a video ... I replaced the audio with a piece from YouTube to avoid the music police ... so mute the audio and just watch ...

I just took 2 videos with 8 beat loops and then started playing with transitions from deck to deck ... the last 30sec or so I left the video crossfader at 50% and moved the RGB values ... the end result is - the transition WORKS.

That's great. I know that is what it supposed to do. But it doesn't work for me like that. It doesn't work for me, and there's others that it doesn't work for me. My computer is certainly powerful enough and the graphics card can certainly handle the effect.

You can see for yourself. I am bringing it across (and back and forth) for the first bit, and then after I just place the crossfader on one side and move the individual faders. Pardon the audio, the record video function on VDJ isn't very functional for me either.

Whoa weird. On my computer, the audio comes out in bleeps and bloops, but when I put it on Youtube it got clear. Weird.

I just tested the alpha trans on my Mac - and it worked as Chris's does in his video.

However it doesnt work via bootcamp on Windows.

Hmm I just recorded another video and the audio stops entirely (it works in Media Player Classic) after a few songs.

But that's another issue altogether.

For the record, here are my specs:

8 GB Ram
2.5 Intel Quad Core 2 Processor
Vista 64
512 MB NVidia 9500 Graphics card

for my laptop its:
4 GB Ram
2.5 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Vista 32
512 MB Nvidia 8700 Graphics card

These are both fully reasonable machines to gig on.

Its not a Mac problem, DJ Cel has confirmed this much.

On my simple work pc with on board video it works perfectly.
On my two Pro machines it is not working both of which have big video cards in them.

It does seem to work "randomly" by the looks of it.

It DOES work on my Mac (OSX) but DOESNT work on Windows (via Mac Bootcamp) even though the hardware is identical.

Very odd.

This is clearly an O/S and hardware issue. The transition works as I have demonstrated ... however, there is something else that is creating issues with the effect working on some system configurations. I built that video on my machine at work - which is a low performance system. I will see what is unique about it tomorrow and report back.

Thank you for your help guys. I really appreciate it. As you can see, I'm not making this up... I'll do anything to get this working right!

Also I wanna say I just checked out the video transitions and the strips and squares ones are DOPE!

(The squares one did crash my computer, but I think I increased the number of squares too quickly... gonna have to find a way to assign that to a midi function!)

You have to be careful when using Strips and Squares if using Sonique...

I wasn't using sonique... two MP4 videos. I think I just moved it way too fast. I would be kind of cool to be able to set a min and a max squares with that so you could only go so far (like, 2x2 and 5x5 or something.

The amount of squares is specified by a slider on the transition config window - it runs a preset amount. The speed/crossfader have no bearing on the grid size :)

Yeah, I saw that. I ran both transitions all night long and had no problems increasing and decreasing the speed/grid size, so that's good.
