Just wanted to say that before you go out bad mouthing virtual dj in this case vdj 6.01....do remember that this is a SOFTWARE and a very good one may i say...but yes this is a software that runs in most cases perfectly fine on good running computers....vdj has very very minor if not NO problems at all...so before you go out there and say that its crappy and that its full of bugs.....please look at the crappy hardware you are using...and yes while the versions of ANY software updated and made better..of course the requirements of the computer increase so if you ran vdj 5.2 very well on your computer this maybe being that your computer was at borderline of running good to crappy...then this version of vdj 6.0 might not run so good so people think its the software thats crappy when in reality the computer is outdated...that and drivers, soundcards, video cards etc. Im not a computer expert but i do my homework i have my computer running @ 99.9 % perfect no virusus no adware registry fixed drivers updated ...you name it my hard drive is 140 gigs almost full and still running smooth and fast, i surf the web everyday then again i clean my computer almost everyday. So please read and question before you just say that its plain crappy....sorry if i offended anyone but...just a thought!!! VDJ is the best thing out there !!!

+1 it is the best

Ha ha ha, I get that from haters all of the time, they say..."You use what? And you have an SL3? Why? That Virtual DJ program sucks and is full of bugs and has problems, my friends and I have tried to use it and blah blah blah!". I always ask them if it was a legal version and where did they get it? They say... "yeah a friend gave it to me", you know, that same lame story everyone always says.

I have received PMs and emails regarding how this person or that person hates it. I did a YouTube video called "Karaoke and VDJ" and I mentioned it, you can kind of tell the anger in my voice over people's stupidity about VDJ. Most of the time it boils down to crappy hardware/computer and/or a cracked copy of the software.

Check out the vid...

I have been using VDJ for years now, and every version has had its minor issues to contend with when it has first been offered to the end user...I think that it's just a matter of sample size in concert with equipment variation and issues are soon resolved based on feedback in the forums. The team does listen to us.

On the other hand, like you guys said, cracked versions (intentionally) do not work properly. Further, there seem to be some folks that are too quick to judge VDJ as "crap" without even trying to help themselves - checking settings, updating drivers, etc. In fact, the forums sometimes get the feel of a broken record in that respect, and the solutions are usually quite simple and not searched out before posting.

Despite the occasional challenges that new versions bring, each one IS better than the last, the software has been very good to me on the whole, and I wouldn't trade it for anything "out there." Nevertheless, it is software, like the others, and each configuration will present its own unique characteristics and troubles when it is run on them. It is impossible to anticipate every possible combination of hardware, and not everyone will be happy with the product - that is a given ;)

Call me a faithful follower, I guess :D

Very nice video R.D.

Thanks Caliente. If you have a YouTube account add me as a friend. I want to do more. I've got more VDJ, Serato and Ableton tutorials coming up as well as other stuff.

I don't worry about the haters. Nearly everyone I've encountered that had some negative opinion about VDJ either had the cracked version or they were running a computer with 256 megs of ram and Windows 98 SE! lol,

(In a slow pot smoking voice)..."Duuuhh, VDJ sux man, I can't get videos to work right and I know it's not my computer cuz I'm running a 600 mhz Pentium 3 and I just installed another 128 chip man and now I have 256 megs of ram and I upgraded my OS to Windows ME".

Or... "I got it from a friend of a friend's brother's girlfriend's cousin's husband who works for Sam Ash Music and he's supposed to get me the serial number but he has to go to his public storage to find it in a box but he works weekdays and he gets off work too late so the storage place is closed, so I'm just waiting for him to find the time to find the serial, so... can you help me? I mean, I am a legal user"!

These are serious, I have heard this or something close more than once.

R.D. +1!!

RD..lmao thast good very good indeed yeah man like i said...sometimes people have good computers i mean good as in requirements good..but then they have them full of lime@#$%wire virusus then they want to blame the software lol.....i love vdj. and like i said the programs when they update they sometimes come with minor very minor problems but will not stop you from getting through a gig then they quickly get solved...no biggy! vdj 6.01 is 99.9 % perfect to my knowledge!!!

P.S. If i ever have a stroke, heart attack etc. PLEASE dont call 911, just walk me to the hospital...i would get there faster......seeing how fast the ambulance drove off michael's home.....hummmmm!!!!

Hummm.....

Well after this weekend I'm annoyed a bit.

Hate: I got my first VDJ crash last night. Lucky my teammate was doing the audio at the time. I had to reboot the app and the only "seen by the audience problem" was all the monitors went blue for a few moments. Hate Hate Hate.

Hate: I keep getting a problem when loading a song or video and it slugs out the player. Tonight I loaded MJ's Thriller video and then the load problem started. I tried several things like loading short clips of videos and MP3s on that player hoping to clear the problem, but no fix. I had to dig out the backup CDs and go to the Denon player while rebooting the app. Hate Hate Hate !!!!!!!!.

Good: Now that I have an offender "Thriller Video" I can start my own analysis of what is causing these players to slow load. Good Good Good.

Hate: I'll then have to send a report to Atomix. And I must have >5 unanswered forum issues right now. The team must be enjoying some time at the shore. The above issues have been mentioned here by me in the past. And still not fixed. Hate Hate Hate

Hate: Last night the search freeze was especially bad, but I caught myself having "filedate" turned on. I love that feature. The search freeze doesn't affect the video playback, but if I were at the end of the song and this bug froze up playback control, I would clear the dancefloor with everyone looking at me like I was an assbag. Hate Hate Hate

Hate: I keep finding my BPMs changing. I'll drag a XXX bpm song into a player and is appears as a XX. I have to X2 it back to proper timing. I am finding more and more of these. I just went through them... and now I have to do it again. It's getting worse. Hate Hate Hate

Good: This product is allowing me do things never before possible in entertaining a dance crowd. Overall this is an extremaly powerful tool. Yes...I am a little tweaked about the problems, but the incredable resource this product provides is fantastic. Good Good Good.

Regards,

JimJamsHbgPa

p.s. Tayla thanks for the downloads. Your re-mixes are great, and the visuals are awesome. I tried to buy a month of GigaTribe with Paypal and had problems. Are you still going on line?

cheers mate nice to be appreciated, try this with giga, when it opens hit the back button and at the top select direct connection then press next and go through the normal opening sequence shouldn't need to pay for giga that way it's the way they have it set up, so no worries.

my files are open now if you need anything that you've missed.

@DJRudeDoGG

You should avoid to extend the video window on your second screen as it's CPU/GPU consuming. It's better to use the TV output option with hardware acceleration. You will have better results.

Yes filedate is not saved in the database and it's read in real time that's why DO not use it in live as it can freeze if your computer can't follow.

Thanks djcel ... yeah I see how it's doing a live re-indexing. But filedate indexing is such a great tool to use. I can see the most recent stuff I prepared for the week "at the top" of the lists. It really helps me out with song orginization.

Perhaps the team can create an indexing algorithm that anticipates someone using this feature. It is listed in the menu selection to be used.

Create a process that indexes each directory, virtual directory, or filter folder by date during early stages of boot up. One ascending and one decending... that would eliminate dynamic real time indexing. Database management is an art indeed.

Hmmmm....I think that would work. Good Good Good ... Please Please Please

DJCel, are you saying I shouldn't expand the video window on the second screen? How much should I expand it? I need to expand it somewhat or it will be too small to bother. I do have hardware acceleration checked and the TV output too. If you are referring to my video you may have noted that I mention having it set that way for the purpose of showing novices how to run the program initially.

Great Vid... Rude

@ JimmyL-Dj
I've submit it a ticket on the filedate issue a looong time ago, instead i use the first seen option. Try it.....it works for me

That method is actually taxing your system.

Below is my generic reply from support:

For XP machines:
If your system is capable, follow these steps.

1) Connect your external video display, monitor, tv, projector etc...
2) Boot your system
3) Click start/control panel/ display/settings and check the box that says "extend my desktop" making sure the #2 screen is activated.
4) Open VDJ and click config and the video tab.
5) Select the video card in the drop box, click activate making sure the acceleration box is checked as well.

For Vista Machines:

1) First, Boot with the device connected so Windows recognises it.
2) Right click on your desktop and select properties
3) Then on the left side select "connect a projector of other device
4) A new window will then open, select "detect device".
5) Then another window will open, on that page select the second option to "show different parts of my desktop on each display" (extended)
6) Select "apply" and ok to close that window and you should be good to go.

Try that instead

Rude, I also use my video output as described above.........works perfect.

Why is everyone telling me this? I have always had my external monitor connected this way, from day 1. If it's because the way I did my video presentation I did it that way on purpose for noobs. Most novices when first starting out with videos or karaoke are not going to think of all this when initially beginning to use VDJ for karaoke and videos. The advanced uses and instructions are explained on a forthcoming video I'm currently producing. I personally am not having any issues with video other than over-heating issues with my GPU not VDJ. I have since solved it by running a fan directly against the heat sinks.

If I am running VDJ and then decide to run videos or karaoke only then do I turn on my external LCD, the small video window will appear on the laptop screen if the external LCD is not turned on, then at that point I must drag and expand. If it's already on then it will go to the external LCD fully expanded but I don't like to keep my external LCD on if I'm not using it and I don't have to power down or restart my computer to get it to be recognized, the minute the LCD is powered on my lappy responds to it and the desktop is extended. I know some computers unfortunately don't work this way, mine does.

On the other hand if my external LCD is on already when I decide to toggle video or karaoke mode the video window automatically appears in expanded size fitting the entire screen of the external, it doesn't need to be dragged and resized, I have it set to do it automatically. Like I said in my video I like it so that the stars in the screen saver will "frame" the VDJ video window, so sometimes I have it set so that I can size it the way I want.

I'm not denying I didn't know any better, cause I did, there's nothing to deny, just listen to what I said in the video at 3:50 to about 5:30 "I can have this set up so that as long as I have the external monitor turned, it'll automatically come on and show up over here". I'm pointing at the external LCD which you can't see me pointing, which may be why you guys thought I didn't know about the proper settings. For the pupose of showing novices the "basics" of how to run karaoke in VDJ. The "Karaoke with VDJ, Advanced Techniques " video is coming soon, and I will be covering these important aspects.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys!

This is the wrong way
You should click config/video, click the drop box and select the video card option to activate full screen output.
It will find it if you have properly set this up.
