It's a nVidia card thing, were it helps improve performance and latency issues relating to the card when using videos, the link will give you more details, if you have this card then I recommand you use it in your system...

If your card has the "PowerMiser" feature, then yes this will help....

Hey, I dug up the specs on your card. I am not very familiar with Quardro cards, as they are typically used for desktop applications like CAD.
It *looks* like the card is barely scratching some of the the minimum specs (like using GDDR3), and that could definitely be an issue if you are trying to run anything in HD.
Just in case you ever need them, here are the specs for your card:
Codename: NB8P-GLM
Pipelines: 32 - unified
Core Speed * 625 MHz
Shader Speed * 1250 MHz
Memory Speed * 800 MHz
Memory Bus Width: 128 Bit
Memory Type: GDDR3
Max. Amount of Memory: 256 MB
Shared Memory: no
DirectX: DirectX 10, Shader 4.0
Current Consumption: 50 Watt
Transistors: 289 Million
technology: 80 nm
Features
PureVideo, video scaling, LCDs with 1920x1200 pixel, PCI-Express, connection for ext. graphic card
Information
CG shading language, 32 bit floating point precision, 12 bit subpixel precision, 128 bit precision of the graphic pipeline, vertex and pixelshader programmability, PCI-E inferface, FSAA with turned grid, nView multidisplay support, high-precision dynamic-range (HPDR) technology, hardware 3D clipping, full screen antialiasing
Have you tried running any really standard videos just to make sure you aren't trying to push the card too hard?
Also yes, codecs can be a huge issue.
I use the K-Lite codec pack, here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm
and the Combined Community Codecs Pack (CCCP), here: http://www.cccp-project.net/
For most things you should be able to get by with the K-Lite pack. And one of the reasons codecs are an issue is that because when someone encodes a video, they have to encode it using one of several formats, and just ONE thing can change what codec you would need from one MP4 (or avi, mpg, etc) to another. So if you are going to be working with videos, it is just a smart thing to have as many as you can, to be able to get just about any video you want in any format and still be able to play it with no issues.

its allways the Drivers "STAFFY"....and or the codecs (if Video problems)...but no more problems...and I'm running 2 Nvidea GeForce Go 7900 GS 256mb x2= 512mb (I know...old skool to some but still SLI power!) on my Alienware m9700.Running smooth!
Inviato Tue 04 Oct 11 @ 8:22 pm
thanks tracker im going to upgrade drivers later again.also ive downloaded codec packs.is there something i need to do with codecs or just install them on laptop.

thats with the latest Nvidea drivers, correct? did it have like a new control panel for setups on the GPU's?....made allthe difference for me.what I had in the Alienware for drivers were prehistoric..imao..did'nt think I could bring them up to date..as far as codecs well...if you Recordings at the VDJ output are sluggish then you need Better codecs and the DivX pack are it...good luck!
Inviato Thu 06 Oct 11 @ 12:54 am
yes tracker brand new drivers with new screen opening on install with advance to turn powermizer off ect.
so as long as i have codecs on laptop downloaded vdj will use them if needed yes.
also turning on game boostre (3 new) before opening up vdj.
this laptop video card seems to use quiet a bit of cpu compared to my ati card on main machine.

Thats weird... your video card has a decent GPU.
Oh wait, you have "Hardware Acceleration" off! Thats why... its not using your GPU, its using your CPU to process the video. It sucks that you can't use Hardware Acceleration.
I wonder why you can't?
I am glad you got it working, even if it does hog the CPU lol
Oh and just a quick note... when you have SLI or CrossfireX, it still only uses the RAM from one card. It doubles the GPU's, but not the RAM. So if you have 2x 512mb, you are still only using 512mb, not 1024mb.

just a note for people with nvidia cards update your drivers from make of laptop makers ie...dell/driver download as said in nvidia forums nvidia site drivers might not work as dell set up for drivers is different
