What's your opinion on the sync button?
a person who uses the sync button isn't really a dj? or is it a tool that was purposely designed for Dj's to use?

Meh... Has been discussed way too many times... search for those threads...

My opinion is that this has been discussed a million times over and that it always ends in an argument.
Anyway, I use it all the time. Love it :)

my bad, should've searched, how to delete?
Inviato Mon 28 Oct 13 @ 11:55 am
You can't delete it but who cares if you use sync, I will say this though. There's gonna be times where your gonna have to relay on your ears so it's always best to learn how to beat match by ear .........

Just learn to beatmatch anyways, you need that knowledge for sure. Once mastered choose to use sync or not. Your choice, whatever works best for you. Better worry about WHAT you play and HOW you bring that across to your audience cause in all honest truth they don't care sh## for what tool or technology you use.

The sync button does not work most of the time, so if you are relying on the sync button exclusively, then you will be a horrible DJ with lots of train wrecks. You need to learn to mix songs without relying on the sync. When you can do that then you can use the sync button as much as you want and the times that the sync don't work, you can just beat-match by ear and never have a problem.
Just imagine if the sync button worked 100 percent of the time, then anybody could be a good DJ, assuming that they are good at playing the right songs at the right time.

Got a buddy who can't mix at all. If the songs don't sync he just uses the backspin effect and drops the new song. Annoys me the hell out of me, but the crowd he spins for doesn't seem to mind. He really likes this biz, and will most likely put in the effort to get better, so I don't hate on him. I do give him crap for the songs he pics though. Draws a bad crowd and his shows typically end in fights. He already lost one gig after a stabbing. The bar was not doing so well financially and after the fight they closed their doors for good.

There are Djs that use it but, I don't recommend anyone using it. Its better to beat match by ear.
Inviato Mon 28 Oct 13 @ 6:50 pm
The sync button is there for you to use, so use it if you want but you should learn how to DJ without using it first.
Inviato Mon 28 Oct 13 @ 8:16 pm
I want a remote control that can disable any sync button within 100 metres!!!! There would be lots of so called 'DJs' fall flat on their faces and get thrown out of the club. That would be mint!!! Ha ha ha.
Yes, I use it all the time, BUT, I beatmixed 12" vinyl for years. ;-)

I'm still amazed that people still give a damn about this..
Especially when sometimes the very next thread is some guy complaining about the 'waveform', and then another guy complaining that he needs better sampling features..

I'm still learning but when I practice at home I will let the song run out and rewind it if I have to, just to learn to beat match properly. Using the same song to do this is almost too easy and I can match that up usually fairly quickly. I will press the Sync button if I have to get it another .01 or .02 and my fingers just don't want to work right. The only real reason you should use the Sync button from what I gather is if you are spinning 3 or 4 decks at once.
The reasons it won't work 100% of the time is a change in time, or the grid isn't set up correctly. I have problems with this still but I try. I kind of threw myself into it with out really sitting down to read and study the theory behind what I am doing. I played the guitar and trumpet for years and figured I knew enough about music theory I should be fine. It's worked out ok but still need to learn a lot.

Thing with sync is that its utterly and completely a "dj only" kinda thing.
That being said, for own learning/practice is very wise to learn manual beatmatching to get a good feel and experience of how to mix and good mix points etc.
But in reality it only matters to other djs, so if you have no djs to impress in the booth, or dont care to impress, what tools you use to mix the songs have close to zero importance.
Paul Van Dyke uses Ableton, Deadmau5 too I think - most "djs" would argue thats not even djing. But the crowd could care less, and love their live acts and are big fans.
At a smaller scale, the dancefloor at your local club could care less how you achieved your mix, as long as you are mixing in beat, in structure, in harmony and tunes fitting the concept, building up a good atmosphere.
Its like the customer could care less if you build their house using an old school hammer, or nail gun, as long as the work is well done ;)
But djs will care.... some a lot. If you only use buttons, and have no "old school" skills, some other djs might diss you for that ;)
In my book its totally ok to use sync, since its soooooo little of what djing actually is.
I can teach my mama to manually match beats in a few minutes - its easy .... She would still suck as a DJ, since she doesnt know the music well, and have no clue about where to mix, in what structure and harmony ;) and THAT is what matters, and THAT is what DJ skills really are ;)

It's a button, use it or dont use it, there positives and negatives, but at the end of the day, still a button!

SYNC, this topic with the other "SYNC" topics and end of story.
Inviato Sun 03 Nov 13 @ 3:03 pm
i use it all the time :)
i can mix, i dont have to prove anything
in may types of DJ perforamance, the track selection and timing are much more important than beat mixing anyways.
