Inviato Fri 16 Nov 07 @ 12:16 am
roughly 95% of users here are professional djs

who have many good experiences , i my self use it at a wide range of events it is very versitile

as it allows you to do audio , video and KJ

if you do a search of the forums you will see alot of good feedbacks

ultimately the best way to find out is to try out the demo :)

try it jc then you will understand audience reaction first hand...

Well, I can definetly say that i've had my ups and downs with VDJ over all, but I have to say that the ups definetly out weigh the downs. I have pulled some CRAZY remixes live out of my ass because of VDJ. Compared to serato, or traktor (I've used both) I must say that in its own element, VDJ is an awesome program. It organizes all of your music pretty much for you, and gives you ideas of mixing songs that you never thought would go, but it does. There are many little things that make it a great all around program, but to be fair, i've definetly hmy downs with it too. Nothing I couldn't fix on the spot, but my trick is that I always have a little 1 gig mp3 player as a backup, with music that I know will work with my set, but is not on my computer (So I don't play the same song twicein a night) just in case theres a problem. You'll read that theres freeezes, glitches, and crashes, but it widely depends on the hardware that you use. See, I am using a laprop that has decent specs, and I stayed with version 4.3, becuase I know that this particular combo of version number, and hardware is stable. On the other hand, when I load it onto my desktop, its like the program just ate its spinach, and loads songs 3 times as fast, sounds amazing, etc etc etc...

Right now, i'm djing at least once a week, sometimes 4 and all I use is my laptop, a sound card (I use the maya 44 usb $109) and a mixer of your choice, I plug the out of my mixer into the club's mixer (What ever channel is free) and i'm done. Takes me around 8 minutes to setup and start playing music, and even less to pack up and go home.

I've used everything from vinyl, tapes (Don't laugh), and most recently cds. The number one benefit is that I only need one trip from the car, and I STILL have a free hand. When i'm using any of the above, your setup consits of players (Cds, Turntables, what ever) media (Cds, Records) and a mixer. Well, with any laptop setup, you completely eliminate 2/3 of your carrying weight. The benefit of VDJ is that it does EVERYthing the other programs do, but waaaaaay better.

I do recommend that if you are new to DJing, you practive with something else first, cdplayers, records, what eer to get an idea of what its like to mix 2 songs together with your hands, to get the feel of what song is going faster than the other. VDJ (Like other programs) has a visual aid, which is a scrolling timeline of the EQ, and you can literally "SEE" the songs being put together, and if they are off, but its not always that simple. The BPM engine is good, but not perfect and if you base your mixing soley on that, you will mess up.

All said and done, I can be doing shots all night, while getting head in the booth and watching an all girl 3-some, and I can still mix a perfect night for 400 people. The program is that well laid out.

Hope I explained it good enough (Sorry for the long winded post)

I use it twice a week, Friday and Saturday nights. Might be on my way to a third night aswell, yipee, and I must say it has helped me get them nights.

Join the club and you won't be sorry, believe me, I'm glad I did.

I use it as a CD TimeCode setup, coz thats a pro solution- at least for me. A hybrid- hardware/software setup, coz you always have to be prepared if something should freez up. Altough, I have to say: VDJ hasnt failed me yet!

Downside using laptop at partys (at least for smaller ones) is- that people tend to look at your screen & want to know what kind of music you got. I mean, Its redicilous when you say "I've got 12,000 songs" and yet they still want to browse trough it. Its just plain stupid!

Well I'm using My Friends VDJ...And it's Good So Far..I'm Still Learing How To Use The Program.....Thanks for the FeedBack On My Post Everyone......

I'm envious of you as most of my regular crowd leave their teeth at home in a glass however as for VDJ i use it six nights a week for various venues and when i don't have any issues its the dogs bollocks dispite my whinging of past.

been a vinyl junkie for 20 years.... came to a country that has more cdjs than vinyl decks in alot of places. tried out cds because ive always digitized my vinyl as soon as i buy it. got really screwed on how i was going to organize my music onto cds. tried serato and didnt like it, too much latency and dont like proprietary hardware or usb.

came to vdj and never looked back. can carry 100s of gigs worth of music which would be like 10 crates of vinyl and can be ready for anything anytime anywhere. im very meticulous about how i organize music and have folders that go 5-8 levels deep. i hate apple proprietary stuff so never bothered with itunes, and glad i never did judging on the horrors some of my itunes friends using both serato and vdj have had. folders are more work but more reliable.

any dj who works professionally needs to get their head around certain thing in the club environemnt:

1) make sure you dont hit the master (especially on pioneer 600 mixers) and crank the volume and destroy speakers
2) vinyl: make sure you dont hit the needle
3) cdjs: make sure you dont hit cue button at the wrong time
4) vdj: make sure you dont hit cue on the wrong track when you think its the other one
5) software: make sure your firewire (especially 4 pin) or usb plug doesnt get yanked while playing

it takes some time and gauranteed every dj has a few stories of embarassment. but you can become good without learning some lessons the hard way... having said that, vdj is the best software out there because of its customisability.... and support for hardware

virtual dj is the only thing i use at gigs at least 3 nights a week - my boss is trying to make me use cdjs but i reckon i can do way more on a laptop and dxm01usb is just doesnt look like i doing that much... just fiddling with the mixer and pressing buttons - is there anything else i can do to show them that this is an ultra high quality product.

I guess TimeCode would make it look more "legit" even though is doesn't really matter in my opinion.
As long as you provide good music you would think that everybody would be happy...then again I've yet to come across a club owner which has the slightest clue about anything..at all...hehe

As for using VDJ I've been using it on a weekly basis since march this year (or actually Virtual Vinyl that is). Use it for both audio and video. Rock solid so far, no crashes or glitches when playing live...*knock on wood*
It's an amazing piece of software!

Always use VDJ only.

Been using VDJ and a laptop with a USB Maya44/timecoded CDs for 3 years now and I have opened for a few big name DJs such as Interstate, Noel Sanger and recently Paul Van Dyk, and honestly what VDJ has done for me is make my life much easier and my mixes at least 20% better.

Unfortunately now that I have moved out of California I have a feeling my gigs will be few and far between, at least in clubs, but hopefully I can keep playing on the internet radio and satellite radio (Sirius) for a long time to come.

Here's my opinion on VDJ : Serato, Traktor, Mixmeister, they all suck big time compared to it. Even some of my pro-DJ friends were like "can you get it for Mac" when it was PC only... And these were hardcore vinyl DJs...

To answer the OP's question....

VDJ is the BEST thing that has happened to me in 15 years of professionally DJing.

I think that explains it all.

I had a test gig last friday at a club in my hometown. Basicly the crowd was pleased, but the guy that owns the dj recruit thingy told me that he didn´t like that I used the hercules dj console mk2 as he thought that was cheating. I was like wtf ?!? He wanted me to either get timecoded cds, which I´ve now fixed.

What do you people think of playing at a club with mk2 ?

Funny the original question I thought, I mean how many people on here use VDJ at home?
